» Festing it up... Your week in SWVA
YOUR WEEK IN EVENTS IS WAITING! So get out there and heart your community!
Ahhh… another week in the star city. Well, if you had a fantastic time at Local Colors last Saturday then you should stop by the Pamela Jean Gallery today. Because in honor of local colors they are featuring “Invasion” by Juan Astianax, a collection of vibrant paintings and sculptures from one of Mexico’s finest! On Tuesday, if you just graduated (Congrats!) or if you’re looking for a change of pace at work then you may want to check out Talking Tuezdays, a forum sponsored by Jobzcafe for area job seekers to network with each other and meet those coveted employers!
On a completely seperate subject… this time of year, everyone wants to be a little healthier, eating fresh and getting in touch with nature and themselves. Right? And what better way than a yoga classat Balanced Living Yoga Studio this Wednesday? Or, also on the “fresh” is “Green Local Food”, a plant walk for edible and medicinal species happening on Thursday. And for those of you wanting an international flavor, there’s also an “Introduction to Thai Cooking” a free seminar on healthy Thai cuisine at the Williamson Road Library.
By Friday, the week wouldn’t be complete without some live music! Civil Twilight, a 3 piece band from Cape Town (South Africa) will grace the stage at 202 Market on Friday night. You can take a listen to them here, pretty fantastic! And on Saturday, we propose a roadtrip to Dugspur, VA, don’t worry we’ve got maps on myScoper! Why Dugspur, you’re asking…? Well, Black Snake Meadery just happens to be located there and they’re open all day for Mead Tasting. If you’ve never had mead, you’re in store for a pleasant surprise! Plus they’re the only meadery in SWVA. Sunday, getting back to your zen, you may just find a new way to worship during “Heart of the Blue Ridge Sangha” at the UU Church of Roanoke on Grandin. After all, wouldn’t it be nice to clear your mind from the weekly clutter since you get an extra large dose of weekend with Memorial Day. So relax and soak up your extra day off… or for the busy bodies and festival followers… there are so many festivals going on this weekend that you may need Monday just to recuperate!
